Why use iSharePDF to crop your PDF

When cropping a PDF is useful

Cropping comes up in a range of everyday workflows: removing the thick white margins around a scanned document before printing, isolating a chart or figure from a research paper to embed in a presentation, or trimming a letterhead out of a PDF template before reusing the layout. It is also common when preparing PDFs for e-readers or tablets, where oversized margins waste screen space.

Frequently asked questions

Does cropping a PDF actually reduce the file size?

Not necessarily. Cropping a PDF changes the visible page boundaries (the MediaBox or CropBox), but the underlying content outside the cropped area may still be stored in the file. For a significant file size reduction, you should combine cropping with compression. iSharePDF offers a separate compress tool for that purpose.

Can I crop only certain pages in a multi-page PDF?

Yes. The tool lets you apply the crop to all pages or to a specific page range. If you need different crop areas on different pages, you can process the file in separate passes, split the PDF first, crop each part, then merge the results back together using the other tools available on iSharePDF.

Will cropping a PDF remove content permanently?

When you crop a PDF, the content outside the selected area is hidden, not deleted at the data level. The visible output is cropped cleanly, but if you later open the file in a PDF editor and expand the page box, the hidden content may reappear. If you need to permanently remove content for confidentiality reasons, use a dedicated redaction tool.

Is it safe to crop a PDF containing sensitive information?

Yes. Because iSharePDF processes everything locally in your browser, your document is never transmitted over the internet. The file stays on your device at all times. This makes the tool suitable for sensitive materials such as legal documents, financial statements, or medical files, without any risk of interception or server-side storage.

What is the difference between cropping and resizing a PDF?

Cropping changes the visible area of the page by cutting away the edges, it does not scale the content. Resizing (or scaling) changes the actual dimensions of the page, stretching or shrinking the content to fit a new format such as A4 or Letter. If you need to change the page size rather than trim the margins, use a resize or scale tool instead.
